Hello! I'm Shayla, I was born here in beautiful Kamloops, BC but grew up in Fort McMurray, AB. I’ve always had a deep love and compassion for animals, and growing up, our family pets were a constant source of joy and companionship. From gerbils to cats—and every critter in between—I took great pride in caring for the animals who made our lives a little brighter. My journey into veterinary medicine began when I had the opportunity to intern at a clinic in Fort McMurray through a Career Pathways program. That summer, I worked alongside an incredible team and quickly realized this was the career I was meant to pursue. In 2020, I was fortunate enough to be hired on, and I spent a year providing care for small animals, including an unforgettable two weeks spent babysitting chickens!
Although I later pursued and received my healthcare aide certification, my passion for veterinary medicine remained unwavering. This led me to a clinic in Kelowna, where I continued to nurture my love for animals. Recently, I moved back to Kamloops to be closer to family and am thrilled to be part of the team at Kamloops Veterinary Clinic. Every day, I’m excited to care for the patients and clients who walk through our doors. In my free time, I love to paint and spend time outdoors with my family.
At home, I’m the proud owner of two rescued cats, Phineas and Phoebe, whose spunky personalities never fail to bring me joy. They’re my babies, and I adore them.
In the future, I hope to pursue my goal of becoming a veterinary technician, but in the meantime, I’m grateful to be able to share my love for animals every day as a veterinary assistant, learning and growing with each new experience.
