Shayla Veterinary Assistant

Hello! I'm Shayla, I was born here in beautiful Kamloops, BC but grew up in Fort McMurray, AB. Iā€™ve always had a deep love and compassion for animals, and growing up, our family pets were a constant source of joy and companionship. From gerbils to catsā€”and every critter in betweenā€”I took great pride in caring for the animals who made our lives a little brighter. My journey into veterinary medicine began when I had the opportunity to intern at a clinic in Fort McMurray through a Career Pathways program. That summer, I worked alongside an incredible team and quickly realized this was the career I was meant to pursue. In 2020, I was fortunate enough to be hired on, and I spent a year providing care for small animals, including an unforgettable two weeks spent babysitting chickens!

Although I later pursued and received my healthcare aide certification, my passion for veterinary medicine remained unwavering. This led me to a clinic in Kelowna, where I continued to nurture my love for animals. Recently, I moved back to Kamloops to be closer to family and am thrilled to be part of the team at Kamloops Veterinary Clinic. Every day, Iā€™m excited to care for the patients and clients who walk through our doors. In my free time, I love to paint and spend time outdoors with my family.

At home, Iā€™m the proud owner of two rescued cats, Phineas and Phoebe, whose spunky personalities never fail to bring me joy. Theyā€™re my babies, and I adore them.

In the future, I hope to pursue my goal of becoming a veterinary technician, but in the meantime, Iā€™m grateful to be able to share my love for animals every day as a veterinary assistant, learning and growing with each new experience.
